Hello. This is the International Inheritance Team at Law Firm Jonjae.
On July 1, 2024, the International Law Center of Law Firm Jonjae successfully concluded a seminar on 「Tax-Saving Strategies for Inheritance and Gift Tax on U.S. Real Estate and Securities Investments」.
Why Cross-Border Inheritance Between Korea and the U.S. Matters Now
As U.S. business expands, real estate and stock investments increase, and as the number of family members who are U.S. permanent residents and citizens grows, tax issues arising from gifts and inheritances of domestic and overseas assets are becoming increasingly complex. This is because the tax structure can change completely depending on the governing law of the asset owner, in situations where the tax laws of both Korea and the United States apply simultaneously.
This seminar was planned out of such practical needs. It was a place to deepen understanding of tax issues and reporting systems regarding gifts and inheritances of overseas assets and to share reasonable tax-saving strategies.
A Professional Seminar with a Washington State Attorney
At this seminar, together with speaker Daniel Yoon, a Washington State attorney in the United States, we provided detailed information and strategies for reasonably resolving tax issues according to the governing law for inheritance and gifts.
Participants agreed that international inheritance issues spanning Korea and the U.S. involve far more considerations than simple inheritance in Korea or in the U.S. locally, and they shared that this seminar was extremely useful and interesting.
